Collection Manuel Garc�a Matamoros:
Champion and Martyr of Religious Freedom in Spain

Our August 2011 exhibition presents a large selection of European Carte de Visite given to Manuel Matamoros in support to his action. Most photographs are autographed to Matamoros.


Short Bio:

- Matamoros Manuel Garc�a (Lepe, 1834 - Lausanne (Switzerland), 1866) was a Spanish military and religious.
         Although born in Lepe, he lived most of his life in Malaga. He was convicted and later exiled for the dissemination of Protestantism in Spain. He is considered the founder of contemporary Spanish Protestantism and has been given within the evangelical comity, the designation of Champion and Martyr of Religious Freedom in Spain.

- Manuel Garc�a Matamoros (Lepe, 1834 - Lausanne (Suisse), 1866) �tait un militaire espagnol et religieux.
         Bien que n� � Lepe, il a v�cu la majeure partie de sa vie � Malaga. Il a �t� condamn�, puis exil� pour la diffusion du protestantisme en Espagne. Il est consid�r� comme le fondateur du protestantisme contemporain espagnol et a �t� surnomm� dans la communaut� �vang�lique Champion et martyr de la libert� religieuse en Espagne.

- Manuel Matamoros Garc�a (Lepe, 1834 - Lausanna (Suiza), 1866) fue un militar y religioso espa�ol.
         Aunque naci� en Lepe vivi� gran parte de su vida en M�laga. Fue condenado y posteriormente desterrado por la divulgaci�n del protestantismo en Espa�a. Se le considera fundador del protestantismo espa�ol contempor�neo, y se le ha dado, dentro de la comunidad evang�lica, el apelativo de Campe�n y M�rtir de la Libertad Religiosa en Espa�a.
